What's On in Manchester: July 2026

Summer is in full swing and July is shaping up to be one of the busiest months in Manchester's events calendar. From major music festivals and immersive experiences to community arts events and family friendly days out, there's something happening in every corner of the city region this month. Whether you're looking for live music, cultural experiences, fitness events, family activities or something completely different, Manchester's packed programme of events offers plenty of reasons to get out and explore. Here's our pick of what's on across Greater Manchester this July.


Sounds of the City

📍 Castlefield Bowl, Manchester City Centre

📅 3rd - 12th July 

One of Manchester's most popular summer music series is back for another year, bringing a packed programme of headline performances to the iconic Castlefield Bowl. Set against the backdrop of Manchester's historic canals and industrial architecture, Sounds of the City has become a staple of the city's music calendar. 

This year's line up includes The K's on 3rd July, Hacienda Classical on 4th July, Wet Leg on 8th July, Johnny Marr on 9th July, two nights from The Streets on 10th and 11th July, and the Sex Pistols on 12th July. 

The festival has built a reputation for attracting some of the biggest names in music, with previous years welcoming artists such as Sam Fender, New Order, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, Chic, Arcade Fire, Paolo Nutini, James and The Courteeners. Located in the heart of the city centre, it's one of the most unique live music venues in the UK and a perfect way to spend a summer evening in Manchester.

Greater Manchester Fringe

📅 Throughout July 

The Greater Manchester Fringe returns this summer with an exciting programme of comedy, theatre, spoken word, music and live performance taking place across the city region.

The festival has become an important platform for emerging creatives, particularly comedians, giving audiences the opportunity to discover new talent while supporting Manchester's thriving arts scene. With performances taking place in theatres, pubs, studios and community spaces, the Fringe offers a more intimate alternative to larger arts festivals and showcases the creativity that Greater Manchester is known for.

Whether you're interested in comedy, contemporary theatre or experimental performance, there is always something unexpected to discover at Greater Manchester Fringe.


Manchester Open 2026

📍 HOME, Manchester

📅 19th June to 6th September 

One of the region's biggest celebrations of local creativity continues throughout the whole of July at HOME Manchester. The Manchester Open returns every two years and provides a platform for artists of all ages, backgrounds and experience levels from across Greater Manchester's ten boroughs. This year's exhibition attracted more than 1,500 submissions, with 420 artists selected to showcase their work.

Visitors can expect an incredibly diverse collection of artwork spanning painting, photography, sculpture, ceramics, textiles, digital art, printmaking and installation pieces. The exhibition features artists ranging in age from just four years old through to 80, reflecting the breadth of creative talent across the city region. Running until September, it's an excellent opportunity to experience some of the most exciting artistic voices in Greater Manchester.

Horizon of Khufu: Journey to Ancient Egypt

📍 11 Tib Street, Northern Quarter, Manchester M4 1AF

📅 Throughout July 

For something completely different, Horizon of Khufu: Journey to Ancient Egypt offers one of the most immersive experiences currently available in Manchester. 

Located in the heart of the Northern Quarter, this cutting edge virtual reality experience transports visitors more than 4,500 years back in time to explore the Great Pyramid of Giza. Participants can walk through ancient corridors, uncover hidden chambers, visit the Queen's Chamber and even encounter the Egyptian goddess Bastet, all through advanced VR technology.

Developed in collaboration with Harvard University Egyptologist Peter der Manuelian, the experience has already been enjoyed by more than 2.5 million people worldwide. Combining education, technology and entertainment, it's a fascinating attraction for history lovers, families and anyone looking to try something new in the city centre.


Didsbury Arts Festival

📅 27th June to 5th July 

South Manchester's much loved Didsbury Arts Festival returns this summer, bringing nine days of creativity, culture and community spirit to the area.

The festival delivers an impressive programme of music, theatre, visual art, exhibitions, spoken word performances, workshops and immersive experiences. Events take place across a variety of indoor and outdoor venues throughout Didsbury, creating a vibrant atmosphere across one of Manchester's most desirable neighbourhoods.

As a community focused organisation, the festival works closely with local schools, venues and community groups while also showcasing artists experimenting with new and innovative approaches to their craft. With events suitable for all ages, it's one of the highlights of South Manchester's cultural calendar.

 Stock Party

📍 Stockport Old Town, Underbanks & Market Place

📅 Saturday 4th July 

One of Greater Manchester's most anticipated free events returns on Saturday 4 July as Stock Party takes over Stockport Old Town once again.

Running from midday until 9pm, the event stretches from the Great Underbank through Market Place and into Robinsons Brewery Yard, transforming the area into a huge street party celebrating independent businesses, food, drink and live entertainment.

Visitors can enjoy DJ sets, live music, brewery takeovers, outdoor bars, food pop ups and special collaborations from some of Stockport's best loved independent venues. From craft beer and cocktails to fresh pasta, wood fired flatbreads and Mexican street food, there's plenty to enjoy throughout the day. As Stockport continues its transformation into one of the North West's most exciting destinations, Stock Party perfectly showcases the creativity and community spirit that has made the town so popular.


Race for Life Manchester 10k

📍 Heaton Park, Prestwich, Manchester

📅 Sunday 5th July 2026

Taking place at Heaton Park, Race for Life Manchester 10k offers participants the opportunity to challenge themselves while raising money for an important cause.

Whether you're aiming for a personal best or simply taking part with friends and family, the event welcomes runners, joggers and walkers of all abilities. The race is chip timed, allowing participants to track their performance while enjoying the supportive and uplifting atmosphere that Race for Life events are known for.

Every participant helps support the life saving work of Cancer Research UK, making it a rewarding way to spend a summer weekend while contributing to an important cause.

 Green Island Festival

Returning this summer, Green Island Festival continues to establish itself as one of Manchester's most exciting independent music events. Taking place across Hulme Community Garden Centre and the Niamos Centre, with a street stage connecting the two venues, the festival offers a unique grassroots experience that feels distinctly Mancunian.

Spread across five stages and welcoming around 1,500 attendees, Green Island brings together Manchester music legends, underground artists, underrepresented voices and emerging talent for a full day of live performances, DJ sets and community activity. The carefully curated line up has helped the festival build a loyal following among music lovers looking to discover something new while supporting the city's thriving independent music scene.

More than just a music festival, Green Island is built around the idea of creating opportunities for young people and nurturing the next generation of creative talent.
